My Life in Blossom

Best Pink Flowers & How to Choose Them

Best Pink Flowers & How to Choose Them

The color pink is the color of love and compassion, and when combined with flowers, it symbolizes friendship, affection, harmony, and inner peace. You can never go wrong when you choose to gift someone pink flowers. The meaning of universal love for oneself or others makes this color the perfect choice for many situations and life events. The is a wide range of pink flowers. From pale pink to magenta, there are shades of pink for every occasion, and most pink flowers bloom in late spring and end in the autumn season, so there is always a perfect bright flower ready for the wedding season!

Pink blossoms are also an attractive choice for any wedding bouquets. Especially if you combine them with dark green foliage and white flowers: that’s the perfect color palette! I made the ideal choice with a classic pink rose for my wedding day; look how pretty my wedding bouquet was:

Pink is a very versatile color that is sometimes considered a neutral color. However, the selection of pink flowers is vast, and choosing the perfect pink flower can be a time-consuming task. Sometimes you need a guide to make the right choice for your occasion. Pink blooms are available throughout late summer. They come in all shades of pink, from light pinks to dark purples. I’ve selected the 12 best flowers and the occasions I used them for:

Begonia

Begonia is a perennial flower plant that has been misunderstood for centuries. Since its discovery by the Franciscan monk Charles Plumier in 1690, the flower has been associated with warnings and caution. The meaning of begonias was linked to the premature disappearance of Charles Plumier, who died soon after discovering the flower. Far from a warning sign, this beautiful plant that flowers all year round comes in a variety of colors, deep green foliage, and has a meaning of gratitude. It is an excellent choice for weddings because it looks elegant and romantic at the same time.

Say it with flowers

Carnation

The carnation is one of the most popular cut flowers. It is easy to grow, and it lasts long in vases. Carnations have a sweet scent and are often used as gifts for Valentine’s Day. Their name means “little meat” in Latin, which refers to their shape. This flower is a good choice for weddings because it represents hope and faithfulness. Their flower bed needs to be in direct sunlight so that these showy flowers can thrive.

Gerbera Daisy

Gerberas are a group of daisy-like plants that belong to the Asteraceae family. These flowers have a large number of petals arranged in a circle. They are commonly grown as annuals and perennials. Gerberas are known for their strong fragrance and their ability to attract butterflies. They are a good choice for weddings since they represent joy and happiness. They bloom in late spring and will need well-drained soil to thrive.

Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemums, also called chrysanths or mums, are perennial plants that start blooming in early autumn. They are known as the flower of November. I always prefer to purchase seasonal flowers, so if your event is in the autumn, this is a flower worth considering. However, if you are gifting this flower to someone overseas, please note that the meaning of the Chrysanthemum changes overseas.

Hollyhock:

Hollyhock reaches for the skies and brings your bouquet and garden a sense of verticality. Hollyhock has been used as a medicinal tea to help treat upset digestive tracts. Some people have also found that hollyhock helps treat skin-level inflammations.

The hollyhock grows in an irregular pattern throughout its feet tall stem, often reaching heights of 4 to 8 feet tall; the hollyhock certainly knows how to make a statement. Hollyhock flowers come in virtually every rainbow color; this will support you whether you are looking for a bright, light pink, or a darker fuchsia shade.

Hydrangeas Varieties

Hydrangea:

Often seen in the front of people’s houses, the hydrangea bush is excellent at filling space and has a lovely fragrance. Interestingly, roughly 70 different hydrangea species are growing around (it helps that the brush can grow just about anywhere)! The flowers often come in blue and purple hues, but the pink variants are simply stunning. You can get them all year round, but I prefer to buy them during late spring.

If you decide to grow hydrangeas, make sure that you water them frequently… these flowers require a lot of water, especially in roughly dry periods. Beware if you have kids or pets; the flowers are moderately toxic and should not be consumed.

Hyacinth:

The Dutch hyacinth variety is a prolific flower popular throughout the East Mediterranean. Found throughout many gardens, the hyacinth is a relatively low-maintenance flower that gardeners adore. Although the hyacinth can be in many colors, the pink variety is among the most bright and beautiful.

From a distance, these flowers appear to be spikes of color, but up close, these flowers are smaller and plentiful. If you choose to grow these, ensure your animals keep their distance as these flowers can be toxic to pets. Also, these flowers should be considered annuals and not perennials… as the flower size decreases over the years. They will need well-drained soil and regular watering.

Lily:

While these flowers may remain dormant during the winter, they are preparing to deliver a blossom like none other. The lily is a popular wedding and garden flower, and it finds itself prominent symbolism in various literature.

Lilies are perennials, meaning they can survive many years, delivering bright, beautiful blossoms for a long time. If you were to give your significant other a beautiful bouquet of pink lilies, they would be sure to feel your affection. These beautiful flowers are not toxic to humans, so feel free to appreciate these fragrant flowers.

  • Spider lily

is one of the largest varieties of lilies, with a height of 3 to 5 feet. This plant is best grown in full sun, and it needs plenty of water. Although the spider lily is a perennial, it does not bloom until the second year after planting. As such, it is best to start your plants from seed. It blooms from spring through summer.

  • Belladonna Lily

is another large variety of lily, with a height of 2 to 3 feet. It blooms in early to mid – summer, and it is also known as the deadly nightshade. While the belladonna lily is a perennial plant, it requires a warm climate and lots of sunlight. It is best planted in fall and then transplanted into the ground in spring. It has a distinctive fragrance that will certainly hook you with its aromatic fragrance.

  • Canna lily

is an attractive variety of lily, which grows to heights of 1 to 4 feet. It blooms from late spring to early autumn. Canna lilies are easy to grow and do very well in pots. However, they must be kept moist and fed regularly.

  • Oriental lilies

are a type of lily that is native to China. It is a tall variety of lily, growing to heights of 6 to 10 feet. Oriental lilies are hardy and thrive in cool climates, making them perfect for northern regions. They bloom in late spring and early summer. Oriental lilies are extremely fragrant, and they are often used in floral arrangements. Make sure to plant them at a distance of two feet wide They are a popular choice for wedding bouquets due to their aromatic fragrance

  • Cobra Lily

is a tropical variety of lily found in India and Southeast Asia. Cobra lilies have a unique shape with a snakelike appearance. They are typically only available at specialty nurseries or online.

How to Cultivate Orchids

Orchid:

For roughly 100 million years, orchids have been a dot of color amongst our landscapes. To grow an orchid, you need to have patience. If you were to grow your orchids from the seeds, it would take around 5-7 years before the orchid would blossom. Their flower bed needs to contain rich soil, and the plant likes partial shade. They can also be indoor plants if you choose to.

Orchids have unique shapes and appearances, making for exciting bouquets and gardens. These delicate flowers come in a variety of colors and many pink shades! From soft pink to dark pink, a wide variety of colorful flowers. Orchids’ vibrant shades make great houseplants… which is something you would appreciate considering how long they take to bloom. These flowers can live to bloom for up to 100 years, so be sure to let your grandkids know how much they mean to you!

Peony:

Like roses, peonies are a flower that will make a woman smile. Peonies grow to be huge, beautiful bushels of pink. They are a very popular flower that is a floral symbol for China. Many people decorate their weddings with peonies because they symbolize a healthy, future marriage.

Much like the orchids, peonies can live to be 100 years old. These flowers will make your garden pop every time the peony blooms. The next time you visit your florist, ask about peonies.

Roses:

Although the rose comes with thorny stems, the flowers are pretty opposite. The beautiful pink roses are soft, scented, and gorgeous when grown upon arbors and fencing. The rose receives the flower crown (pun intended) as the valid floral symbol of love thanks to its sweet fragrance and pretty appearance. Fun facts:

  • Rose is the national flower of the Maldives.
  • Rose is the most purchased fresh flower in North America, and it’s used for decorative purposes and as a way to commemorate a celebratory event.
  • Roses are the pink wedding flowers of choice due to their rich colors, delicate shades, and distinctive individual blossoms.

Around Valentine’s day, many husbands purchase their wives a bouquet of roses to symbolize how much she means to them. The rose is a relatively low-maintenance flower to grow but be careful of beetles, as they love to chew on the leaves and petals.

  • Lenten rose

is a special type of rose that only grows during Lent. During this period, Christians abstain from eating meat and drinking wine. In order to honor this tradition, the rose has red thorns and white petals. I like to combine this rose with traditional pink roses for April weddings.

  • Beacon Rose

is another type of rose that is native to England. It is known for its bright yellow buds and deep orange petals. This rose is often used as an accent flower at funerals. I like to combine beacon roses with traditional pink color roses and colored foliage in order to create a bright colors composition of a flower.

  • Kirigami Rose

is a hybrid rose that was created using paper cutting techniques. It is a modern version of the Japanese art of origami. The rose is one of the oldest cultivated flowers. It is believed that the first roses were brought to Europe from Persia in the 6th century. Rose is the official flower of Scotland.

  • Baronesse Garden Rose

is a hybrid rose developed in France. It is a large, showy rose that produces abundant blooms.

How to Grow Tulips

Stargazer:

The stargazer lily is among the most popular pink flowers used by florists everywhere. These flowers are commonly seen in bouquets for any occasion because of their unique appearance and irresistible smell. Due to their perennial nature, these flowers are also straightforward to grow.

The name comes from the shape of the flower, as the petals form a very recognizable star shape. These flowers will grow the best when exposed to direct sunlight (which makes them very easy to show off to the neighbors!).

Tulips:

With over 150 different species and 3,000 different varieties, tulips are a staple amongst gardens and fields of wildflowers. The shape of a tulip is almost perfectly symmetrical, making it perfect for a bouquet recipient that appreciates perfection in detail.

Despite the tulip being found in just about any color, there seems to be something special about pink ones. Because the flowers only bloom for 3-7 days during the spring, many gardeners keep tulips to signal the arrival of spring joy.

How to Grow and Care for Zinnias

Zinnia:

A very uncommon flower, the zinnia, is a mystery to biologists. With only 20 known species, the zinnia still leaves much to be discovered. Zinnias are not very durable and susceptible to insect damage and fungal diseases. Despite that, these flowers are easy to grow and bloom into beautiful 3-5 inch flowers that stand out in your garden. Zinnia’s color pink is the perfect choice if you’d like a pop of color in your garden. Make sure these vibrant flowers are planted in well-drained soil so their pink blossoms can thrive.
