April Birth Flowers And Their Meaning

What do flowers signify for people born in April? Here’s what they say about your personality:

  • Daisy – You’re very friendly and outgoing. You like being around other people and enjoy socializing. If someone says something nice to you, you’ll probably respond with kind words of your own.
  • Sweet Pea – You’re an idealistic person who believes everyone should be treated fairly. You have a strong sense of justice and fairness. You believe in equality for all.

Does it sound true? Let’s dive in on the essence of April birth flowers and their meaning.

Daisies

The large yellow center surrounded by bright white petals has always been a favorite of the childhood game ‘He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not.’ One by one, each white petal was pulled off the yellow center, and each petal represented ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ and the last white petal let the player know if he loved her or if he loved her not. In adulthood, the daisy flower takes on a deeper meaning.

The flower is native to Africa and Europe, with its’ name originating from Old English. The word ‘daisy’ comes from “day’s eye,” which refers to the blooming habits of the flower. Daisies open their petals during the day and close them at night.

The name daisy comes from the Latin word ‘dasyus,’ which means ‘thorny.’ This name originates from the thorn-like appearance of the leaves.

  • In Greek mythology, the goddess Hera had a garden where she grew all kinds of beautiful flowers. When Zeus fell in love with her, he sent his messenger Hermes to steal the flowers for him. Hera discovered that Hermes was stealing her flowers and chased after him. She caught up with him and tried to stop him from taking the flowers, but he slipped away. As punishment, Hera turned the flowers into thorns.
  • In Celtic mythology, the god Cernunnos (also known as Cerne) was said to have created the first daisy. It was believed that when he died, the daisy would grow forever.
  • In Chinese culture, the daisy represents good luck because it opens during the year’s first month and is often gifted as birthday flowers. It is also a symbol of purity and innocence.

The daisy is made up of two flowers. It’s known for its vibrant colors. The yellow center eye is a collection of tiny florets, while the white petals radiate from the center and resemble the sun. The English daisy is the buttercup, while the French version is the marguerite. Many types of daisies include single, double, bi-colored, and even striped varieties.

Daisy Meaning

In addition to meaning true love, the daisy holds several other meanings. In Norse mythology, the daisy is associated with Freya, the symbol of fertility. For this reason, the daisy has become a symbol of motherhood. In the language of flowers, the daisy stands for fidelity.

  • The white petals mean purity and innocence.
  • The phrase ‘fresh as a daisy’ means a person looks rested because the flower closes at night and opens in the morning.
  • Oopsy-daisy is often said if someone drops something or makes a mistake.
  • The white petals mean purity and innocence.
  • Yellow blooms mean joy and friendship.
  • Pink blooms mean affection.
  • Red blooms mean love and romance.

Sweet Pea Meaning and SymbolismSweet Pea

The sweet pea is another popular April birth month flower. Sweet Pea is native to Asia and Europe, with its name coming from the Latin word “pulvis,” meaning dust. The plant grows wild throughout the world and can be found growing along roadsides and in fields. These days, this popular flower can easily be found in North America and other parts of the world.

  • A Scottish gardener named Henry Eckford introduced the sweet pea to England in the 19th century. He called the new variety ‘Eckford Beauty’ after himself. Soon after, the sweet pea became very popular among British gardeners. By 1825, these dainty blooms were being grown commercially in England. Today, over 100 varieties of sweet peas are available, and they come in a broad color palette, from pale pinks to dark purples.
  • Sweet pea flower has long been associated with romance. They were used as wedding bouquets and given to newlyweds as a sign of fertility.
  • Sweet peas are often planted around the home to attract bees and butterflies. The sweet scent attracts insects and birds.

The flowers bloom in a wide range of colors and emit a fragrance combining oranges, honey, and jasmine.

Sweet pea blooms were the forerunners of fragrant fabric refreshers – the blooms were carried in the pocket of clothing to provide a fresh scent.

Meanings

Due to the multitude of bloom color variations, the meaning of the sweet pea does not change with the bloom color. The blooms have general purposes, regardless of color.

* A bouquet of sweet peas is a way to say goodbye and good wishes to someone you care about.

* The flowers are an excellent way to thank someone for a lovely time.

* Sweet peas mean blissful pleasure or friendship.

* By giving sweet peas, you are expressing gratitude for the recipient’s kindness.

* In France, the flower has long been a traditional gift for brides. They mean good luck on her wedding day and in the marriage.

* Some cultures consider the sweet pea to have magical properties.

* If a person was thought untruthful, sweet peas blooms were worn on the clothing to reveal the truth.

Combination

Creating a bouquet of daisies and sweet pea blooms will convey a combination of meanings and is the perfect flower arrangement. A combination bouquet in bright colors would be meaningful to give to a bride or for the bride to carry as her wedding bouquet.

The daisies convey the meaning of the newlyweds working together in harmony, and the sweet pea blooms would get a wish for blissful pleasure in the marriage. The white daisy blooms are upright, while the multi-colored sweet peas blooms grow on a vine, making it easy to create a lovely bouquet or floral arrangement with a combination of April’s birth flowers.
